How much is a suffix number plate worth?
Suffix style number plates were the first registration numbers to contain a year idetifier. They were introduced in 1963, and ran till 1983. And because of their age, most suffix number plates do have some worth.
The value of a suffix registration number depends on a combination of the letters and number of digits, and their appeal to potential buyers.
So how do you know how much a suffix number plate is worth?
These are the main things you need to think about when you are considering the asking price for your personal number plate:
 |
Is your personal number plate a name number plate? |
 |
Is your numberplate a word number plate? |
 |
Does your number plate appeal to lots of people? |
 |
If not a name or word, how popular are the letters? |

suffix style name number plates |
Some suffix registration numbers can make well known names, such as:
DAV 1D or SUS 4N.
Personal number plates like these will be worth £10,000's. The number 4 is the perfect substitute for the letter A. See our full list of
number plate letter substitutions, for more detail.
Less expensive name number plates are 3-letter names such as DAN 24S or MEG 7Y - though these are still very sought after.
The value of these suffix number plates is affected by the second half of the registration number - mainly the number of digits and their appeal.
For instance
compare registration numbers DAN 9P and DAN 28S. DAN 9P (which has just 1 digit that isn't part of the name) should be valued higher than DAN 28S (which has 2 digits).

suffix style word number plates |
If the combination of numbers and letters in the registration number make word, they could appeal to potential buyers. How much appeal depends on the word itself.
Here are a couple of examples:
EAG 11E - the word EAGLE could appeal to a bird lover, or someone who enjoys
golf.
MUS 164L - the word MUSICAL could appeal to someone who performs on stage, or plays an instrument. The number 6 sits in place of the letter C.
If your suffix number plate doesn't make a name or word, but could be someone's initials....then how common are the letters?
For instance there will be more buyers with initials JMH than WSV. So, it stands to reason that, all else being equal, a suffix number plate JMH 37R would be valued higher than WSV 37R.
The number of digits (and the appeal of the numbers themselves) after the letters also affect the value. So JMH 7R would be valued higher than JMH 37R.
