By asking us to advertise your registration mark, you agree to the terms as laid out below.

 


Introduction

 

Terms used in this agreement

For the purposes of this agreement the terms ‘you’, ‘your’, and ‘customer’ refer to the account holder.

The terms ‘we’, ‘us’, ‘the website’, and ‘theplatemarket.com’ refer to The Plate Market Ltd.

The term ‘account’ refers to the facility provided by theplatemarket.com which enables you to advertise your personal registrations numbers for sale or to take advantage of other services available, and where all your personal details are stored.

Commission based number plate sales & paid services

 

Selling a registration mark

 

  1. The seller permits The Plate Market Ltd to advertise the registration mark (on www.theplatemarket.com and via other publications or websites at its discretion).

  2. Commission fees will be advised in writing (prior to advertising), and all details be confirmed electronically. Commission fees may be amended if the asking price is reviewed.

  3. By requesting the registration mark to be advertised, it is deemed that the seller has accepted the Terms as detailed here. It is the seller's responsibility to advise The Plate Market Ltd of any issues regarding the Terms.

  4. The seller may required to provide proof of ownership before the registration mark will be advertised. This must be in the form of a copy of either a valid V778 Retention Document, or V750 Certificate of Entitlement, or V5 log book (if currently on a vehicle).

  5. Offers will be forwarded to the seller by The Plate Market Ltd. The final selling price will be in agreement with the seller. The price payable to the seller will be the final agreed selling price, minus the commission fee agreed. Note: the final agreed selling price may be less than the initial asking price.

  6. On agreement of a sale, the seller grants permission to The Plate Market Ltd to transfer the rights of the registration number to the buyer.

  7. The seller is not required to pay the DVLA fee to transfer the registration number to the purchaser. However, the seller is responsible for fees for Retention of the registration number (if applicable) prior to sale, and the supply and fitting of replacement number plates to the donor vehicle once the transfer has been approved.

  8. If the registration number is held on a V778 Retention Document or V750 Certificate of Entitlement, it is the seller’s responsibility to ensure this is renewed prior to expiry.

  9. If the registration mark is on a vehicle at the time of the sale, the DVLA may ask to inspect the vehicle on application to transfer it. It is the seller’s responsibility to make the vehicle is available for inspection. If this is required, the DVLA will contact the owner direct.

  10. Once a sale has been agreed (i.e. part or full payment has been taken from the purchaser), The Plate Market Ltd will be responsible for application of the transfer of the registration mark to the purchaser. The Plate Market Ltd will endeavour to complete all transfers as quickly as possible. However, The Plate Market Ltd will not be held responsible for any losses caused as a result of delays to the transfer process due to either the buyer or seller delaying the sending of documents to us, or delays at the DVLA. Nor will The Plate Market Ltd be held responsible for any losses caused as a result of the buyer withdrawing from the sale.

  11. The seller must inform The Plate Market Ltd (before a buyer is found) should the registration number be withdrawn from sale for any reason. This should be in writing, by recorded delivery. Allow 7 days for notification to be received. If a buyer is found before the seller has informed The Plate Market Ltd, an admin fee of £100+vat will be payable.

  12. Should the seller withdraw after a sale has been agreed, the full agreed commission fee will become payable.

  13. To enable completion of the sale of the registration mark The Plate Market Ltd will request the vehicle documents (if registration mark is on a vehicle) or the V778 / V750 as appropriate.

  14. Payment will be made to the seller (minus agreed commission fee) once the sale has been completed, and the registration mark has been transferred to the purchaser, as approved by the DVLA.

  15. Note that The Plate Market Ltd cannot guarantee a time period for the sale of a registration mark, or the final selling price achieved. A sale will be deemed to have been achieved on agreement of the final selling price with the seller.

  16. The Plate Market Ltd will not be held responsible for time taken for the DVLA to complete an application to transfer, or any changes to the rules of the Cherished Transfer Scheme.

  17. The payment as agreed, shall be payable to the seller upon approval of the transfer by DVLA, Swansea.

Number plate valuations

If required, The Plate Market will provide you with guidance on asking price. This does not constitute a formal valuation. Nor does it form any type of contract between you and The Plate Market.

A number plate valuation is not an offer to purchase. The final decision on asking price (and any subsequent adjustments) must be determined by you.

Self Service number plate advertising

 

Advertising with us

www.theplatemarket.com provides you with the facility to sell your personalised number plate privately, direct to a buyer. You can now advertise your personal number plate to millions of potential buyers, without incurring hefty commission charges.

On submitting an advertisement on www.theplatemarket.com, you are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions laid out here. The terms and conditions and the contract of which they form part shall be governed by English law.

Placing your advertisement

You are responsible for ensuring your advertisement is accurate, and for determining the asking price for your private number plate for sale. You may amend the details of your personal number plate at any time; including comments, theme, price, and the registration number itself.

 

You are responsible for ensuring that you can sell your personal number plate, in compliance with the rules as laid out by the DVLA. Should you susequently find that the DVLA rules do not allow you to sell the personal registration number you have advertised, no refund of advertising fees will be due.

How to sell a personal number plate

Ensure that you select your number plate word tags and themes carefully, to make sure potential buyers will find your cherished registration number. You must not, however, apply inappropriate word tags and themes. The Plate Market reserves the right to amend the number plate word tags and themes selected if we deem appropriate. We cannot guarantee that you will be notified of changes made.

The advert details you enter must be legal, decent, honest and truthful. The Plate Market reserves the right to amend or remove any advertisement which does not comply with these requirements, even after it has been published on the website and payment has been taken. In such occurrences, we will attempt to contact you (by email) to advise you of the situation. No refund (or partial refund) will be given should your advertisement be removed due to inappropriate advertising copy.

The Plate Market is not able to verify the truthfulness of any statements (including authenticity of any photographs not supplied by The Plate Market) made by the customer in the advertisement copy. The customer shall be responsible for any losses, expenses or other costs incurred by The Plate Market caused by an untrue statement or inaccurate photograph supplied by the customer.

The copyright on all adverts / features (including text and photographs) shall be owned by The Plate Market, and you hereby assign all copyright to us. Any photographs will be watermarked for security / copyright purposes. This is to protect you, our customer, by discouraging other websites / publications from using photographs without permission.

Publication of contact details

Only your telephone number can be published on the website. All other information provided to us will be kept private.

You may choose to keep your contact telephone number private by selecting the Private Massage Service. An additional fee applies. See number plate advertising fees.

Duration of advertisement

Advertisements for cherished number plates will appear on www.theplatemarket.com within one hour of successful payment.

Feature articles will be published within 48hrs of approved copy & photographs, and successful payment.

Advertisements for personalised number plates are placed on www.theplatemarket.com on an ongoing basis, until cancelled by you.

Advertising fees are charged quarterly. Payment will be requested at the time the advertisement is placed. At the end of the advertising period, an ongoing fee will be charged (in advance) at the current monthly rate until the advertisement is cancelled by you. Your advertisement is renewed automatically.

Payments are taken in advance of the advertising period. No refund (or partial refund) will be due should your advertisement be cancelled part way through the specified period.

It is your responsibility to cancel your advertisement. You can do this online at any time, by accessing your account and selecting the appropriate option.

Number plate advertising fees

Fees are charged on an ongoing basis until you decide to cancel your advertisement or a request for payment is unsuccessful.

Fees are dependent on the total value of your number plates.

Selling a single number plate: you can amend the details of your car cherished number at any time.

If you amend the asking price(s) such that your advertisement falls into a lower price band, you will be charged the lower price from the next payment due. No refund (or partial refund) will be due for the remainder of the current period.

If you amend the asking price such that it falls into a higher price band, you will be asked to pay an uplift price. Subsequent payments will be taken at the higher price band.

Selling multiple number plates:

You can amend the details of your registration numbers at any time, including prices. If you amend the asking price such that the total value falls into a higher price band, you will be asked to pay an uplift price. Subsequent payments will be taken at the higher price band.

If you move to a lower price band, you will be charged the lower price from the next payment due. No refund (or partial refund) will be due for the remainder of the current period.

The Plate Market reserves the right to amend advertising fees at any time. The revised rate will apply when the next payment is taken, after the amended prices come into effect.

Payment of Fees

Payment is required in advance of the current advertising period.

Payment will be requested at the time the advertisement is placed. At the end of the advertising period, an ongoing fee will be charged (in advance) to your card at the current rate until the advertisement is cancelled by you.

Payments are taken in advance of the advertising period. No refund (or partial refund) will be due should you cancel / stop your advertisement part way through the advertising period.

Refunds will only be given if payment has been taken but the advertisement has not appeared on the site.

Should a request for payment be unsuccessful, your advertisement will be stopped immediately. You will be notified (by email). You can restore your advertisement by making an immediate payment.

You can stop payments by cancelling your advertisement at any time. No refund (or partial refund) will be due for the remainder of the current period.

Special offers / promotion codes

Promotion codes may be offered to clients (or potential clients) from time to time. The terms of these offers will be specified for each promotion.

Promotion codes must be applied at the time of placing an advertisement. They cannot be applied retrospectively.

Payment methods

Payment for advertising your private number plate must be made through the website.

To process your card payment we will refer you to a dedicated secure service provider, who will take payment via a secure sever (SSL) connection to ensure the safety of your payment on-line.

Payment can be made using the card options specified.

 

Even greater security can be gained by using Verified by Visa or MasterCard Secure Code. Once registered, you will be prompted to enter your password at the checkout to ensuring that no one else can use your card.

No other payment method can be accepted.
 

While every effort is made to ensure the safety of your credit card transaction, The Plate Market can not accept liability for any loss or damage incurred as a result of using the secure payment mechanism.

Your Account

Your personal details will be stored on your account.

Your account will be activated when you have confirmed the validity of the email address provided. Once your account is activated, you may add details of personal number plates you have for sale.

Should you at any point stop being able to receive emails at the address you provide you must amend you account accordingly. You are responsible for making sure the contact details on your account are kept up to date. Potential buyers (and The Plate Market) will rely on these to get in touch with you. We cannot take responsibility for information entered incorrectly.

Disputed payments

By submitting an advertisement on www.theplatemarket.com you assert that you will not dispute any payments made, either through your bank, credit card company, payment processing company or any other means other than by requesting a refund directly from The Plate Market. Should you register a dispute with any other body regarding a payment made to The Plate Market you agree to pay a Disputed Payment Fee of £20. If you reverse any payments you make to The Plate Market you will remain liable for this amount and agree to pay the amount reversed in full, plus the Disputed Payment Fee of £20. You agree to make this payment before the end of the following calendar month following the month in which the email notification that payment is required is sent.

It is your responsibility to ensure you provide us with accurate contact details.

Email alerts

Email alert services (e.g. Retention Reminder) are currently free of charge, and are provided at the discretion of The Plate Market. We are not responsible for any losses incurred should automated emails not be generated due to technical problems or removal of the service.

We will send you emails alerts which you have requested to receive. However we are not responsible for the delivery of these emails once they have been sent from our server. We can not accept responsibility for non-receipt of emails due to the policies of other parties and systems you rely upon for email delivery (for example anti-spam filtering, exceeding your email quota, etc).

You understand and accept that no guarantees can be given regarding the way in which your software may display emails from The Plate Market, and we cannot accept liability for any failure of your software to display these emails correctly, or for impaired functionality or appearance.

The Plate Market reserves a right to introduce a charge, or discontinue email alert services at any time. Should this occur, we will give you at least one month’s notice.

Featured number plates

Feature articles will be published at the discretion of The Plate Market.

Number plate features are offered as an enhancement to your advertisement. These are chargeable. The Plate Market reserves the right to edit (or reject) articles submitted. You will not be charged for articles not published.

The copyright on all features (including text and photographs) shall be owned by The Plate Market, and you hereby assign all copyright to us. All photographs will be watermarked for security / copyright purposes. This is to protect you, our customer, by discouraging other websites / publications from using your photographs without your permission.

Feature articles

By submitting your story to be featured on The Plate Market, you agree to have photographs of you and your car published on the website. Your personal information will not be published, or passed on to other parties.

The Plate Market reserves the right to edit (or reject) articles submitted.

The copyright on all features (including text and photographs) shall be owned by The Plate Market, and you hereby assign all copyright to us. All photographs will be watermarked for security / copyright purposes. This is to protect you, our customer, by discouraging other websites / publications from using your photographs without your permission.

Liability

From time to time The Plate Market will need to carry out maintenance on servers. We therefore cannot guarantee that an advertisement will be continuously available online.

Should your advertisement be available for less than 90% of the month, you will be entitled to one month’s free advertising in the same (or lower) price band or a refund of that month’s fee. The Plate Market’s liability shall not exceed an amount equal to the price of that month’s advertising fee.
