When I buy a private number plate are there extra hidden costs?
No. There are no surprises.
Registration numbers are generally listed at "base price". The base price does not include any vat (if applicable) and DVLA transfer fees.
The standard costs for private number plates are below:
- Base price of your chosen registration number
- VAT (if applicable)
- DVLA fees
- Acrylic number plates

Making a payment
It's worth noting that payment by debit card is free. There is a charge for using a credit card to make a purchase.
Car number plates
Acrylic number plates (to put on your vehicle) are an optional. You don't have to buy them from us.
We only supply high quality number plates that are fully road legal. If you're getting yours elsewhere, please check before buying.
Extension of number plate certificates
If we have supplied you with a Certificate for your registration number, you should transfer it to a vehicle before the expiry date. If you are not in a position to do this, we can arrange to extend the Certificate for you. There is a fee to do this. If you think is likely, please ask us to advise on costs involved.
There are no extra fees to pay.
Unless you ask us for additional services, we will not spring any unexpected fees or charges on you.
Extra services may include things like: additional number plates, removal / transfer of a private number plate you already have on the car, renewal of Certificates, delay of transfer of the registration number to your vehicle, etc.

The good news is that there are now no extra charges for you to transfer a GB registration number to your car. It's now possible to transfer a GB registration number from a Certificate straight to your car, with no additional costs for extra transfers.
